Hello Again
It's an odd feeling, that of a goodbye. You know it's going to happen, and you can know roughly when it's going to happen. You can spend days wishing you wouldn't have to get to that point and then... it's already passed by and you're on separate paths once again.
About a year ago now, I attended the 60th Insomnia Gaming Festival for a single day and ended up having somewhat of a breakdown following it (I think I've managed to dodge it this year, thankfully). This time around, I joined a load of my community and friends who were staying in Birmingham for the weekend. And so, from Thursday until earlier this week (Tuesday), I was in Birmingham for what I can honestly describe as one of the most enjoyable weekends of my life.
There are quite a few ways that I could go about describing our ragtag group. "Ragtag" is one of them, as is "surprisingly short". When you really get down to it, quite a few of us are just socially awkward collective who met through a block game, but there's so much more than that. You're all absolutely incredible people, and it's weekends like this that make remind me to appreciate the friendships I'm lucky to have.
And so, I want to say thank you to the people I met this weekend; some for the first time, some for the second, most I've known for the better part of three years: Connor, Chelsea, Sporty, Sophie, Evul, Nosjo, Tractor, Spud, Dwittyy, Stu, Rob0, Adam, Daryl, Gregan, Alistair, Paradox, Burning, Oakley, Jamie, Ruby and Nox. I love the lot of you to bits, and I hope you enjoyed i62 as much as I did.
I know that for a lot of people, it's not all that feasible to get to meetups very often, so it might well be a while before I get to see some of you after this. However, let's not dwell on the goodbyes. Instead, think forwards to when we'll be able to say "Hello Again".
